Meet Brentwood Optometrist, Dr. Douglas Hassenpflug
For over five years, Dr. Doug Hassenpflug worked part time as a contractor in both Arizona and Tennessee providing mobile eyecare services to the elderly in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. After seeing the extreme need to provide eye care services to those who have limited access, he decided to start his own practice focusing on providing eye care to those who have difficulty accessing quality eye care.
Dr. Doug Hassenpflug, or Dr. H as his patients like to call him, moved to Brentwood, TN in the summer of 2013 with his family after living and practicing in Arizona for over 12 years. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Washington State University and graduated with distinction as one of the top doctors in his class from the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, CA. Upon graduation, Dr. H completed a one year residency in ocular disease at Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital. After finishing his residency program, Dr. H stayed on at the hospital and was promoted to director of the student and residency program, providing clinical education and training to dozens of current and future doctors. He also served for two years as Chief of the Medical Staff at the hospital. He has served as adjunct clinical faculty to two optometry schools and lectured on eye care related topics at local, national and international meetings. He has been a member of both the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry, having had the privilege of lecturing at both associations national meetings.
Although his primary areas of training are in diabetic retinopathy and other ocular diseases, he has extensive experience in fitting contacts, working with pediatric patients, and providing total comprehensive eye care. In June of 2013, Dr. H moved to Brentwood, TN with his beautiful wife Andrea and their four amazing boys. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, coaching, watching and playing sports, going to movies and exercising. He and his family attend church at Fellowship Bible Church in Brentwood, TN.
